My dad always said arrive 15 minutes early! Dress your best for a job interview even if the job doesn't require it. Dawn, I can tell you love & respect your Father. He brought you up with great values. Even though my Father has passed 25 yrs ago, I still remember him with love & respect. He was also the one everyone came to for help-to borrow a tool and my Father ended up fixing it. He called himself the "Jack of All Trades"! We were also told not to talk about politics or religion but that topic always came up and believe me it was no longer silent! When are you having children was never a topic with my Father..he was quite Liberal for his time but my brothers on the other hand.

I do this with online shopping...let it sit in the cart a couple of days...i always come back and delete it or save for later...ive mastered this 😊

Love the thumbnail and title. So funny 😂 I am with you on private school. My parents sent me to a Catholic private school and it was a huge waste. I am now neither Catholic nor using my degree 🤣 I wish they would have saved all that money for me in a Roth IRA, or even in some basic savings account to use as a down payment on a house … MUCH more useful.

When I grew up, everyone was frugal/poor. People couldn’t afford cars, heating, new clothes or hot water. Things improved in the 90s, and early 00s then everyone was poor again.

You need to rent a dumpster and throw out 2/3 of that junk!!

I truly enjoyed your video, Dawn. I was raised by my aunt and uncle who were both born in 1922 and they had a lot in common with the silent generation.

I loved this video. Thank you for doing it. Can you please make a series about decluttering? My bedroom is awful due to it being small. I've pretty much done the rest of our place but could really use motivation in the bedroom. I have severe depression, and I could really feel better if i could just get this done. Thank you. I love your channel so much. Another thing to consider, as you age, you start getting health problems or tire more easily. It's better to get rid of stuff NOW before that stuff happens.

50’s and 60’s! “Frugality” was not a choice - it just WAS!

Our family went to the root beer stand on Friday nights in my moms station wagon. Cost was 5 cents each. When I was in junior high I started making my own clothes. Some fabrics were 35 cents a yard. This was late 50’s early 60’s

Best thing we did was being mortgage free mind would have liked to have been able to finish a lot earlier . Have three accounts, one for savings, one direct debit , one for shopping , Save all change in a jar ready for holidays .

My father was born in 32 and my mom was born in 34 and they were the same way. They are both gone now and I miss them terribly but at least I know that they brought me up right

My grandparents were from the silent generation their house was very minimal and they kept the same furniture, dishes, and household items that they probably had since marriage, if they bought something it was because they needed it, they had one of those big console tvs and they used it until it finally stopped working probably in the late 90s. In the spare room we would sleep in when we visited they had a small tv that you had to get up to change the channel cause it had knobs lol this was also in the 90s.

I grew up in Chicago and the roller rink was the height of social interaction on the weekends, along with the bowling alley. I had pom poms on my skates also. I used my allowance for all my activities. What the heck happened. Life was so much fun back then. Yes, everything was made so much better back then. We used the clothes line and we never talked about money either. When summer rolls around and I feel the warm breeze on my cheek it always reminds me of swimming in my friends pool and the music of the 70's. I had a wonderful childhood and I would have to say we were lower middle to middle class. My dad was the bread winner.

I'm late to this video but I use an American Express card. I put every thing on it, pay it off every month and earn points. After one year I turn the points in for gift cards. This year I got a 1000.00 card to Home Depot and used it to update the landscaping in my yard, and I have also used them for Christmas gifts. I also have an emergency fund, when it gets over a certain amount, I take the excess and place it into a CD for a higher interest rate. It really adds up.

My parents where from this generation my mom is stern and my Dad us gentle instead....my Mom turned 75 years old last month and my Dad is a little older then her....I think a few years older...😊😊😊

Born in 1962, recently I was trying you to my/ explain to younger coworkers that life changed RADICALLY in the 1980s (and not for the better). I think that the main differences: a clear distinction between WANTS and NEEDS, going out to eat was a special treat, new clothes only at Easter and back to school, layaway instead of credit cards, DELAYED gratification.

I live in Australia and am 56. I grew up in a variety of different houses, mainly 3 bed, 1 bathroom. As an adult I have had larger homes, however I am back in a 3 bedroom home. It does have 2 bathrooms but overall the house is small. Much easier to keep clean and tidy. I really miss the 70s and 80s. However I do like some of the things we have now, like the internet especially internet banking.

My parents are still going strong at 88 and 86. My father's parents were Austrian-German and my mothers were Italian, and both were like your father. No warm fuzzies and very strict. I'm glad they were because I turned out alright. I could be your sister. I always get diarrhea of the mouth, so to say. The one value they would disapprove of. My parents are amazed at the changes that have happened over the past almost 90 years in regards to morals, normal behavior and what is accepted today. I think television and social media have had a profound effect on that. Whether it's a good or bad thing is up to the individual.
